Isaac Huddlespith

I just recieved my copy of the February 16th, 2007 issue of Medical Economics in which one of my cartoons spoils the otherwise fine publication. I just love seeing one of my 'toons in print and I hope that you do too (for those of you who do)!

Most of the cartoons that I do are very sarcastic or just me trying my hand at social satire or just plain grumbling on my part, but this cartoon was one of those simple ideas that is just plain goofy fun. The guy's name? No idea how that one popped into me noggin, but it did. I think it fits.

I love the simple and fun style of this cartoon image, Bruce. And your use of line work gives this fellow quite a silly character. I especially like the use of thick, almost calligraphic line work in his face. Love the name! I can imagine this guy in an illustration for one of the books in a "A Series of Unfortunate Events"...kind of creepy, and yet charming at the same time.

Btw, congratulations on your cartoon making it to a print publication!

Cheers,

Bruce, what a brilliant cartoon! Really gave me a good chuckle. :)And on the technical side, it's very well executed. Like Ana said, the line quality and variation is wonderful. I love the bold contour line around his head, which is stylized, and yet also calls more attention to the punchline of your cartoon.

Congratulations on having it published!

Ana: Thanks for the kind words. I actually drew this cartoon about three years ago, so the Count Olaf look was just a coincedence. I was actually going for a more Amish look, or more importantly something from the stove-pipe hat era. This was the most that I've ever been paid for a cartoon, so happiness all around.

Mike: Thanks, I've been using the thin/thick lines in my cartoons; they seem to give me the impact that I'm usually striving for.

Kim: You've actually missed some of my published stuff (it's not much, but some). I should have started this blog awhile ago.

Dave: thanks "brother." I'm glad that you added that, or I might have missed that's who you where.

It looks like a president of the united states. Still looks weird.

he, he, I thought he had an Abraham Lincoln look, as well, Dayna. Now, I really thought that you of all people would have thought of Count Olaf.
