The Lost Fishes Art Challenge

9x12
watercolor on Arches paper

Over the summer when I started to do the #SundayFishSketch over on Twitter, I was contacted by the fine peeps at the Shoal Conservation about submitting a piece for their Lost Fishes Art Challenge. Sounds great! There are ten fishes on the list and all are still considered to be there, but have not been seen in decades. Apparently, the signs are there that they still do exist, but like I said, they have not been seen in some time. Most, if not all of these fishes inhabit only a certain spot across the globe.

I have chosen the Syr Darya Shovelnose Sturgeon (from an earlier sketch), which is (hopefully) still alive in the Syr Darya River which flows through Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The sturgeon was last seen in the 1960's. You can see all of the ten fishes here

Good luck to all who entered and I look forward to seeing everyone's fishes!

I used Dr, Martin's watercolors on this one and just loved the feel of it as I was painting. The watercolor set used to belong to Jon Buechel, who was the longtime illustrator at the Detroit Free Press. Sadly, he passed away in 2010. I was able to purchase some of his art supplies at an estate sale and was very happy to pick up these watercolors. Maybe, just maybe, he helped a little on this piece.

The Great American Sexual Predator Patriot Matt Gaetz

Because that 'square-headed asshole' (as I heard someone call him) was in Michigan last night spreading, or better yet infecting, the populous with what passes as a congressman these days, I thought I'd share a drawing that I did of him earlier in the year.

G Is For Grand Moff Tarkin...

In what is now a weekly installment of drawings from my unpublished Star Wars A-Z book, we are now at the letter 'G."

G is for Grand Moff Tarkin who was there when the Death Star was done.

I was happy with the 'Gah, what the...? look on the Moff's face.

The Feral Cartoonist, Part VI

I haven't promoted my cartoon book in awhile, so here goes it. The Feral Cartoonist came out a few years ago and I used to sell copies at cons in the before times and hopefully coming up soon, as well. It's a collection of some of my cartoons done over the years and if you are up for hilarity in the finest sense, then this might just be the book for you. You can order them from my website, see me at an upcoming convention or on Amazon

So, if gawdawful jokes like the one above (click on image to bigefy) are in your wheelhouse, check it out.

F Is For Finn...

So, continuing to show drawings from my unpublished Star Wars A-Z book, we are now at the letter 'F.'
F is for Finn who really was a big deal.

Prints For Sale

For the past few weeks I have been uploading various prints that I have for sale onto my website store. Usually, I sell them at comic cons and such, but have switched my focus to selling more books. But, I still have various amounts of each one (some have sold out) and they are now available on my website for those who are interested in such things. I still have a few more to add. You can check them out here.

The above image is one that I did before settling into more of a pop culture vein, but one that I am still happy with, nonetheless.

Gulper Eel Sketch

5x8
ink in sketchbook

Today's #sundayfishsketch are fish that are otherworldly in appearance. I chose to do a gulper eel. A deep sea fish is a must if one is considering an otherworldly look.

E Is For The Emperor...

E is for the Emperor who
requires his apprentices to kneel.

Here is the letter 'E' from my unpublished Star Wars A-Z picture book. I had a lot of fun doing this book, so maybe one day it will be picked up somewhere.

Cleaner Wrasse Sketch

5x8
watercolor and ink sketch

Today's #SundayFishSketch fish has to do with Labor Day here in the U.S. Fish that build, work, use tools, etc. The Cleaner Wrasse is a laborious fish in that it has a job in cleaning parasites and other such small creatures from the mouths and bodies of various fish. And from what I've learned, a structured process at times.

And You Thought That Florida Was Bad...

...and then Texas said, 'you have no idea how low a state can go...'. I thought of using a caption for this one, like, Texas: The Poop Star State or 'You've always thought that the shape of Texas looks like a toilet (maybe that's just me),' you know, stuff like that. But, I think that it's best with no words.

This is probably the grossest cartoon that I've done, but these are gross times. More to the point... shitty times.

D Is For Dengar

D is for Dengar
Who Really had Nothing to do.

The letter 'D' brought to you by everyone's favorite diaper-headed bounty hunter. From my unpublished Star Wars A-Z book, Yoda is Small and Other Such Utterances.
