Cherry Capital Comic Con

I will be leaving in a couple of hours for Traverse City where I'll be a guest at the Cherry Capital Comic Con. I will be at table #509 in artists alley and will have copies of the Stoopid Stuf cartoon book, Bifocals and Beer Goggles. Kevin Minor will be on hand as well, to sign copies.

A couple of my artist buddies did the posters for this year's show, Jay Fosgitt and Jeff Manley. It's a great one-two punch and I think the best posters yet, so pick up your copy this weekend.

See you there!

Wonder Man and The Beast stirring up some trouble

This is a recent commission that was done and there is a story behind this one. Tales of And Diego Comic Con… You see Wonder Man and the Beast are trying to convince this young lady of the night of something inappropriate. Hijinks ensue.

Bifocals And Beer Goggles

These two beauties are the front and back covers of the Stoopid Stuf book before colors and text. You can see some of the changes that were made and effects added to make the covers look as completed. The book debuted this past weekend at the Motor City Comic Con, but if you didn't snag a copy then you can always pick one up through either Kevin or I and also on Amazon.com.

Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassidy

Here is a recent commission that I did of the beat writers Jack Kerouac and his friend Neal Cassidy. Done in watercolor and keeping with the limited palette of white, black and yellow as in past watercolor portraits. The white on Cassidy's face isn't so prominent in the original. For internet purposes I cleaned up the background some because I can never seem to scan a watercolor piece without getting shade from the rumpled paper. Anyways, a fun and challenging piece to work on and I particularly like how the colored pencil underlay interacted with the watercolor. A good mix.

Visigoths

I'm going for a ride on a B-17 today. But before I go, I thought I'd share this quick sketch.

So, this guy wasn't so much a thorn in my side as he was to himself. There were three cars in front of me and two coming the other way and this joker with his hipster hat was trying his best to flip his skateboard and land back on it. In the street. With traffic coming in both directions. Now, it was apparent that this thirty something was just learning new tricks and one would think that one would do this at this stage of learning in an empty parking lot or a backyard, at least. Not in traffic. And the look of disdain on the face of this little princess said it all. Momma said he could.

A definite prospect for the Darwin Awards.

The hat makes it all worthwhile.

Did I mention that I'm going for a ride on a B-17 today?
