This is a drawing that I did about this time last year that was intended to be a series of a knight-errant, of sorts, looking for some mystical lady of the forest. Or something like that.
Waoh... It's the myth of the "Conte Raymond de Lusignan". He enticed a woman who had a swim. But every month, she was transformed in a snake. All their children were shapeless.The name of the woman is "Melusine". They often find sculptures of woman snake (or woman foghorn) on the medieval monuments.(you have not medieval monuments in USA? Pffff... Poor people.) It's an old medieval story who afraid the children! ;) Search on wikipedia: Raymond de Lusignan A beer for you my friend!
Pffft, is right. We have no medieval monuments here, but I have been seeing some documentaries that claim that the Templar Knights came here some time during the 1300's. Very Interesting. I just love these old stories and it fits in nicely with what I did here.
Oddly enough, I was just watching today the movie Kingdom of Heaven with Orlando Bloom and there is a character named Raymond de Lusignan. Is this perhaps the same man that these stories originated from?
In Kingdom of Heaven,it's not Raymond, but Guy de Lusignan. The same family. In reality, Guy de Lusignan is a total incompetent military. He's completely responsible for the fall of Jerusalem. You should not always believe what tells Hollywood. ;)
And I knew that, but typed 'Raymond' anyways! yes, Hollywood doesn't pay much attention to facts, but I do have an interest in seeking out just what they got right and just what is wrong. Sometimes, it's surprising.
Well, from what I've read about Jerusalem during the crusades, was that it was impossible to defend because of its geography, so eventually it wasn't that important to keep as other cities became. Even Saladin knew that the city couldn't be held long once it was taken.
