Here is Christopher Lee as Resurrection Joe from the movie Corridors of Blood. It's not really a horror movie, but was pitched as such for American audiences. But Resurrection Joe was rather creepy.

Manos: The Hands Of Fate Sketch Cards

 

As promised, here are the bulk of the sketch cards done for the Manos: Hands Of Fate card set released by RR Parks Cards. EBay sucks these days, so if anyone is interested in the Artist Proofs, you can contact me directly. I'll be starting an Etsy page, as well, so that will be another option. But, buying directly from me will eliminate any obnoxious fees. 

If you haven't seen the 1966 film, I encourage you to do so. It's baaaad. 

Manos: The Hands Of Fate Artist Proof Sketch Cards

 

So... it's been a couple of years since I'd done these Manos: The Hands of Fate sketch cards for RR Parks. I didn't even know that the set was released and quite frankly, forgot about it. There are a few sets that I'm still waiting to be released so that I can show those cards. Anyways, here are the Artist Proof cards for that set. If you haven't seen the 1966 movie... It's bad. And not in a Plan 9 from Outer Space bad. But, you can laugh at it via the Mystery Science Theater 3000 showing and can mock it in that way. 

It was a fun set to draw, though and I will show the rest of the cards that I did for this set soon. Probably this week.

Go Figure! Sketch Night at Rainy Day Art Supply

 This past Saturday was live model sketch night at Rainy Day Art Supply in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. Darian Wolfe as Death from the movie Puss In Boots 2. She did a great job, for sure! This time I took the fountain pen approach instead of the colored pencils that I've been using.

Dr Who? Wu? Hu?

Last week I watched the 1967 movie King Kong Escapes. I'm not sure that I had ever seen it before and it was cheesy and campy as all that, but I was entertained. The main villain, Dr. Who, or maybe it was Wu, or Hu, depending on the American versus the Japanese releases, was this over the top, flamboyant character who (no pun intended) was modeled after the original 1960's Dr. Who, played by William Hartnell. The English dubbed voice was done by Paul Frees, so that combination of Japanese villain, Dr. Who looks and Burgermeister Meisterburger voice was a perfect cocktail of 60's fun. I need to do a sketch of him in ink, as I felt that I didn't quite catch the essence of the character.

I really don't know why I was inspired to draw Buzz lightyear other than I thought the scenes where he was flying through space in his spacecraft with all the colors streaming by looked rather cool. So, of course, I drew it in black and white. Figures.

I will have the original for sale next weekend at the Clawson Comic Book and Toy Show, but more on that tomorrow.

Hollywood Is Dead Artist Proof Sketch Cards

I am currently going through the stack of blank Artist Proof cards that I've accumulated over the years and never completed, for one reason or another. So, the next in line are the 14 AP cards that I received for doing the 2010 set released through Rocket Ink Studios. For those who remember, this set was done in conjunction with Matt Busch's Hollywood Is Dead art book. Matt recreated a slew of classic and modern movie posters done in the style of the original artist, but as undead characters. The cards were done in each artists style, though and much fun was had.

I included recent movies and series, as well as classic ones. All cards have my very own AP sticker on the back to separate these from pack pulled cards. The links are below:

Hodge

 

A few posts back I did a sketch of Tyrian from the movie Dragonslayer and have now done so with the character of Hodge, played by Sydney Bromley. There's a bunch of interesting characters to draw from this flick!

A Tyrian Sketch

 

No, not that Tyrian, the other one, the first one, the one from the movie Dragonslayer (1981). I always thought that the actor, John Hallam, had very menacing eyes that were perfect for the role of Tyrian. And a voice fit for a Rankin/Bass Production. Still... menacing. 

Peter MacNicol may be embarrassed by this film, but I have always felt that it's a great fantasy movie that has held up well. I love everything about it, the actors, the setting, the costuming, the effects, everything.

Recently, I did two commissions for a client, one that I cannot show at this time, because it is part of a bigger project. But, I can show this one. Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man. It had been some time since I last did an ink wash and after a brief moment of hesitation and awkwardness, I was back in the swing of things. This was a fun job, for sure.
