Drop Dead Sketchy April 2025

Last night was the first sketch night for the Drop Dead Sketchy group held at the Detroit Shipping Company. There was a good turnout and all had a good time.

My first attempt at the sketching stuff was working out some designs for some book illustrations involving children and bugs. Then, an attempt at capturing some fellow arteests, Jay Fosgitt and Jim Anderson.

And an awful attempt some guy named Steve.

Above, a pic from after we moved to a different area with better lighting. With Steve, jay and Jim, who is judging my sketchbook...

This was a good venue for our event to be held... A variety of food, a bar, plenty of seating and art all over.

Go Figure! Sketch Night at Rainy Day

This past Saturday was the return to live model figure drawing (perhaps this month should have been undead figure drawing) at Rainy Day Art & Framing. It's been a long, yet quick two and a half years since doing so and it was good to get back to it! Our model Gabi, was dressed as Zelda from the video game.

Go Figure! Sketch Night At Rainy Day

Here are some sketches that I did for the December meet-up of the Go Figure! sketch night at Rainy Day Art Supply. This time, our model was Mary Perrin who returned dressed as Krampus. And a fine get up, it was. Hooved, horned and festive.

Our host Kelly being dragged away for unspeakable acts, I'm assuming.

It's a fun time at these get-togethers and among some of the local artists that attended were Kelly O'Hara, Darin Palmer, Jay Fosgitt, Dug Rusin, Dave Linabury, Jaime Crystal Taperek and Erin Leggett, Anne Garavaglia and Jason Westlake. Check out their work!

This past Saturday night was the Go Figure sketch night at Rainy Day Art Supply. November's model was Rebbecah Sharpe a Mandolorian.

I also draw some of the artists from time to time, as the one on the right attests.

Besides our host Kelly O'Hare, some of the artists present were Darin Palmer, Jay Fosgitt, Kevin Minor, Erin Legget, Darian Wolfe, Anne Garavaglia, Dug Rusin, and Scott Zambelli. Check out their artwork!

Go Figure! Sketch Night At Rainy Day

This past Saturday night was the monthly Go Figure! sketch night at Rainy Day Art Supply. This month, our model was Mary Perrin dressed as Edward Scissorhands. And a fine Scissorhands she was, with the mannerisms and all.

Besides our host, Kelly O'Hara, some Detroit notables were on hand. Jay Fosgitt, Darian Wolfe, Jason Westlake and Dave Linabury. Check out their artwork!

Go Figure! sketch Night At Rainy Day

This past Saturday night was the Go Figure! sketch night at Rainy Day Art Supply. This time out our model was local artist Loki Gregory dressed as the Mother of all Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen

A cutout sword was provided as a prop from our host Kelly.

A couple of contour drawings.

And some added dragons...

Among some of the local talent in attendance were Darin Palmer, Anne Garavaglia, Jay Fosgitt, Jim Anderson and our host Kelly O'Hara Nemzek. Check out their art!

Go Figure! Sketch Night At Rainy Day

This past Saturday was Rainy Day Art Supplies monthly gathering to sketch from a live model. I was eager to get back at it because I missed last month's gathering due to a comic convention. This month's model was one Stacy Buck who did a great job as a pirate. She even brought along her two dogs, which always sits well with me.

The sketch on the left is a blind contour, which means that I didn't look at the paper, nor lift my pen. This practice is good to hone those observation skills.

On the left are sketches of some of the artists taking part.

Sadie the Dog on the right.

Our host Kelly was able to join in on the action, as well as the other dog, Taz.

Among the artist taking part in the festivities was our host Kelly O'Hara Nemzek, Darin Palmer, Jay Fosgitt and Jim Anderson. Check out their art.

Go Figure Sketch Night At Rainy Day

Here are some sketches from the Go Figure! sketch night at Rainy Day Art Supply this past Saturday. Our model this time was a lithe Autumn Decant.

Of all the sketches that I did that night i don't think that two looked like the same person.

A blind contour sketch on the left.

Along with our host Kelly Nemzek, some local notable artist were Darin Palmer and Jay Fosgitt. Check out there works.

Go Figure! Sketch Night At Rainy Day

This past Saturday was the Go Figure! sketch night held monthly at Rainy Day Art Supply. Megan Morse was our model again this month and she did a great job providing us with different poses to draw upon.

The sketch on the left was a blind contour and the one on the right a not so blind contour drawing.

On the left are some sketches of my fellow artists hard at work.

Always a big thank you to Kelly O'Hara for hosting this sketch night. And as always, it was a great time amongst fellow creatives, including Darin Palmer, Anne Garavaglia, Jay Fosgitt, Kevin Minor, among others. Check out their artwork!

Sketch Night At Rainy Day Art Supply

This past Saturday I was at Rainy Day Art Supplies for their Go Figure! live model sketch night. It's usually a good time and this one was packed! It was good to see so many artists there having a good time and sketching for a couple of hours. As always, our host Kelly O'Hara made us behave (somewhat. I think she likes a dose of chaos) and we had another fine model in Megan Morse.

That night was working well for me (hence, more scans!) The blue colored pencil was flowing well.

This guy... No, just kidding, he was just fine, but with it being so packed with sardine artists he was planted on a pew somewhat in front of me. He seemed cool. Brian, I believe his name was.

Really exaggerated the legs on the left hand sketch. I'd like to say that it was intentional, because I think it came out well, but let's just chalk this one up to being a happy accident.

Very happy with the one on the left. The right hand sketch is a blind contour drawing. I love doing them.

These two are not so blind contour drawings.

I don't draw hands well at all. Happy with this one.

So, as I said, these sketch nights are very fun and worthwhile, for sure. Among the fine Detroit area artists present were Jay Fosgitt, Darin Palmer, Jim Anderson, Jeff Sornig, John Wood, Kevin Minor, John Martin, Anne Garvaglia, Jay Shimko and Terrell Culbert. Check out their art! Hopefully, I'll get to know some of the other regulars, as they are very good artists, as well. And they are patient with the rest of us.

Go Figure! Sketch Night At Rainy Day Art Supply

These were some of the better sketches from this past Saturday's live model sketch night at Rainy Day Art Supply. This time our model was Olivia Benton dressed as Catwoman and she did a great job putting up with us knuckleheads. Those knuckleheads, you ask? Well, they are some of the Detroit area's creative talents, such as Darin Palmer, Anne Garivaglia, Jay Fosgitt, Jim Anderson, Jay Shimko and our host, Kelly O'Hara, just to name a few (at least the ones that I know). It's a good setting, with friendly people and a good night out.

Rumor is... that a Klingon will be the next model.
