The Frozen Fish Fiasco Tournament to benefit Clark Park in Detroit, usually held in January, was held over the weekend. As with so many things Covid, the event couldn't be played until now.

So, last December I cast the annual trophy, this time in a gold finish and it was presented to the young lad above for the best hockey hair. A fun trophy and a fun event.

The Frozen Fish Fiasco "Flow" Trophy

The Frozen Fish Fiasco charity hockey event was held at Clark Park in Detroit this past weekend I was once again able to provide them the trophy for best hockey hair, cast in resin and with a silver finish for this year's look.

Every year Dom Riggio put's on this event to benefit Clark Park, to keep it running and all that and gets multiple teams to participate, including the Detroit Red Wings Alumni.

Frozen Fish Fiasco Trophy

So, once again I have had the opportunity to sculpt a trophy for the hockey charity event held at Clark Park in Detroit each year called the Frozen Fish Fiasco. This year I did up the design for the Flow trophy that will go to the best Hockey Hair. A fun one to be sure. I modeled the look of this one on the wild mullet of a 90's Jaromir Jagr. Let's call this one Jagr-esque.

The event will be held this January 27-28 at Clark Park in Detroit, MI and will feature the Detroit Red Wings alumni playing members of the UAW in one of the games. Check out their website for more information.

Echo Network Castings

I recently finished up another sculpture for a local podcast network that goes by the name of Echo Network (Motown Mojo Live!). So, I was asked to do the logo and cast two in resin. The above two pics are the sculpture done in modeling clay. I reworked the word 'network' a bit for the final casts. The bottom pic is the final product complete with color. I really dislike doing letters, whether drawing or sculpting and didn't want a flat, sterile basic letter, so I worked it a little rough to add some texture.

Frozen Fish Fiasco Trophies

So, here is what I have been working on for the past few months (with a fractured tibia, to boot!). I was asked to make custom trophies for this years Frozen Fish Fiasco charity event to benefit the ice rink at Clark Park in Detroit. The event, which is organized by Dom Riggio will take place this weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, including a game between the Red Wings alumni and the Detroit UAW.

Here is the finished look, complete with base. Photo by Dom Riggio.

The trophies were done in a cold cast bronze process. They are cast in a resin with actual bronze powder in it and can be buffed to look like an actual bronze sculpture. The whole process was a learning experience for me and I had help with the mold making process from my partner in crime at Venus Bronze Works, Nick Katsavrias and the folks at TFB Plastics, who did the actual pours for me. I'll do a post about the whole process later on.

Here are all 12 trophies upon completion and waiting to be picked up.

When Dom first approached me to do these trophies, he wanted a replica of The Spirit Of Detroit statue by Marshal Fredericks. I thought that there might be some legal issues with doing this, but more importantly, he already had this great logo designed by Ryan Craig, a local graphic designer. So, I did up some sketches based on that design and we went from there.

So, if you want to watch some hockey and support a good cause, get over to the Frozen Fish Fiasco website for further details and head on down to Clark Park this weekend!

And yes, this is another fish sculpture from me...

I'll have more about the trophies here later in the week.
