Frozen Fish Fiasco Trophies

So, here is what I have been working on for the past few months (with a fractured tibia, to boot!). I was asked to make custom trophies for this years Frozen Fish Fiasco charity event to benefit the ice rink at Clark Park in Detroit. The event, which is organized by Dom Riggio will take place this weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, including a game between the Red Wings alumni and the Detroit UAW.

Here is the finished look, complete with base. Photo by Dom Riggio.

The trophies were done in a cold cast bronze process. They are cast in a resin with actual bronze powder in it and can be buffed to look like an actual bronze sculpture. The whole process was a learning experience for me and I had help with the mold making process from my partner in crime at Venus Bronze Works, Nick Katsavrias and the folks at TFB Plastics, who did the actual pours for me. I'll do a post about the whole process later on.

Here are all 12 trophies upon completion and waiting to be picked up.

When Dom first approached me to do these trophies, he wanted a replica of The Spirit Of Detroit statue by Marshal Fredericks. I thought that there might be some legal issues with doing this, but more importantly, he already had this great logo designed by Ryan Craig, a local graphic designer. So, I did up some sketches based on that design and we went from there.

So, if you want to watch some hockey and support a good cause, get over to the Frozen Fish Fiasco website for further details and head on down to Clark Park this weekend!

And yes, this is another fish sculpture from me...

Yes i also admit this and your thoughts about that there might be some legal issues is correct.
