Galactic Files Sketch Cards

I've just finished up my Galactic Files sketch cards for Topps, had them approved to show and have had some requests to show them in their entirety. So, that's what I'll do, show all 106 cards that I did for the set throughout the week. I tried to do characters that I haven't done before, so most of the set is made up of minor characters and I even dipped into the Expanded Universe pool and explored some of those denizens. Not sure exactly when this set will be released, so check in with Topps all the latest news.

As usual. click on the images to engorge.

San Diego Comic Con, Day Two

The masses hording to Comic Con from the Gaslamp District.

After a day of hitting up publishers, we sat behind the hotel and people watched, drank, ate, had a massage, you know, the usual.

Behind Jake is actor Sean Maher who is known for his role of Simon from Firefly/Serenity. He held court with his people almost the entire time we were there.

Day Two and our final full day in San Diego was spent hitting up a select few publishers that we missed the day before. The Minor brothers had a meeting of their own, so I had headed out to see what I could come up with. I had some interest in my work, which is always good to see, but nothing as solid as what I had the previous day. Still, a good morning. Soon, I met up with the brothers in the portfolio review section where they had some good showings of their stuff. Then, back to Artists Alley to talk with some friends and to make some purchases.

Our day at the con was finished and we decided to relax some behind the hotel. We had lunch, some drinks and people watched. Quite a few celebrities wandered by, including Sean Maher (see above), Brian Posehn (sp) and the guys from the show Face Off. When Kevin was off swimming and Jake napping, Matt and I chatted and then had a massage. It looked too enticing to pass up and with that shoulder bag digging in for two days it's just what I needed.

Later on in the evening, we met another of Matt's college buddies at the Trickster event and went on over to the Cryptozoic store to meet one of our art directors. The next morning we were at the airport for an early flight back home.

All in all a quick, but good trip. Time will soon tell if any of us will strike gold with this publisher or that. I'll be sire to let you know when that happens.

San Diego Comic Con, Day One

A statuette of Catwoman on the convention floor.

Taking a bit of a break and talking shop with Jake Minor, Kevin Minor, Dennis Barger (Wonderworld Comics, Detroit Fanfare) and Gary Reed (Detroit Fanfare, Caliber Comics, Transfusion).

The view of the convention center and parts of San Diego as seen from our hotel room.

Lunch with Kevin "Pork Chop" Minor, Matt Minor, Jake Minor and a new friend, Basia.

The Weta display for the upcoming film, The Hobbit.

A typical Thursday night at Con. Smoking cigars with Kevin, Jake and Ryan Wilcox. Needless to say, it was a good night.

Most of our first day was filled with seeking out publishers and showing them our goods. The Minor brothers were promoting their own comic book and I was looking for cover work and pushing my comic, Muck Man. The day was filled with some promising leads and I look forward to seeing if and how this will all play out. I had an unexpected interest in Muck Man with one particular publisher, so seized that opportunity to show my comic. Keeping my fingers crossed.

It was good to make the rounds and see so many artists and writers representing Michigan, such as Gary Reed, Dennis Barger, Bill Pulkovski, Alex Buechel, Katie Cook, David Petersen, Jeremy Bastion, and Scott Zambelli to name a few.

San Diego Bound!

Tomorrow, I leave for a quick two day visit to the sunny state of California for the San Diego Comic Con. I won't be set up in Artist's Alley this time, as I will be roaming the floor being part businessman and part fanboy. This time my travel mates will be the Minor brothers (Matt, Jake, Kevin) and I am looking forward to seeing some familiar faces, meeting new ones, drumming up business and having a grand ol time. So, maybe I'll see ya there.

Muck Man!

Just thought I'd throw up a Muck Man pin up while I'm in the midst of being crazy busy. Besides preparing for a trip to San Diego for the big con next week, I have five sketch card sets upcoming, a couple of book illustrations and a helmet to finish up for an As You Wish/Lucasfilm project. More on that later. So, definitely a busy month or two ahead!

It's just Muck for now.
